In keeping with the theme of the summit "Women First, Prosperity for All', PM Modi asserted that empowering women was at the center of his government's development agenda.

"The theme, 'women first, prosperity for all' makes this edition of GSE stand out. In Indian mythology, woman is an incarnation of Shakti - the Goddess of power, we believe women empowerment is vital to our development," he said.

Ivanka, a fashion designer and entrepreneur, is leading the US delegation at the three-day summit+ , where for the very first time women make up the majority of the 1,500 entrepreneurs selected to attend.

During her speech, Ivanka stressed that women entrepreneurs should have access to capital, access to networks and mentors, and access to equitable laws. She observed that despite the soaring rate of female entrepreneurs, women still face steep obstacles to starting, owning, and growing their businesses.

"Fuelling the growth of women-led businesses isn't simply good for our society - it's good for our economy. One study estimates that closing the gender entrepreneurship gap world- wide could grow our global GDP by as much as 2 per cent," she said.

  US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka not only lauded India's success story but also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal journey from a humble 'chaiwalla' to the highest echelons of power.

"What you are achieving here is truly extraordinary. From your childhood selling tea to your election as India's Prime Minister, you've proved that transformational change is possible," Ivanka told PM Modi from the lectern during the inaugural session of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) on Tuesday.

In her keynote address at the eighth edition of the GES, Ivanka further congratulated the Prime Minister for believing that progress of humanity cannot happen without women empowerment.

"Here in India, I want to applaud Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his firm belief that the progress of humanity is incomplete without the empowerment of women," she said.
Concurring with Ivanka's view, Prime Minister Narendra Modi elaborated how Indian women were leading in different walks of life. He also cited the Indian Constitution, which guarantees one-third representation to women in local government.

He went on to enumerate the ways in which the NDA government has boosted ease of doing business in India.
"Over 1200 redundant laws scrapped, 87 rules for FDI eased in 21 sectors and several government processes have been taken online. Our government has taken several steps to improve business environment. The jump in ease of doing business is a result of this initiative," he said.

PM Modi also touched upon Atal innovation mission and Mentor India initiative, which the government has undertaken to encourage innovation and enterprise among youth. More than 70 million loans have been sanctioned to women entrepreneurs through MUDRA, he added.

Google Tracks Your Android Phone's Location No Matter What You Do

Your phone knows where you are at pretty much all times. This is no surprise—that's part of the appeal. But while there are options to disable GPS and Location Services in the settings of Android phones, this won't stop Google from knowing where you are. Short of turning off your phone, there's actually no real way.

New details about the length to which Google tracks Android phones surfaced today from Quartz, which reports that Android phones will track your location even if you disable location services and even if you aren't logged into the phone. How? The operating system automatically tracks the location of the cell towers it is connecting to and phones the information home to Google automatically, a policy which Google confirmed to Quartz.

As Quartz reports

Even devices that had been reset to factory default settings and apps, with location services disabled, were observed by Quartz sending nearby cell-tower addresses to Google. Devices with a cellular data or WiFi connection appear to send the data to Google each time they come within range of a new cell tower. When Android devices are connected to a WiFi network, they will send the tower addresses to Google even if they don’t have SIM cards installed.

The practical effect of this is that, so long as your Android phone is on and not inside a Faraday cage, your location data is being communicated. Google told Quartz that this practice has existed for 11 months, but that the information was never stored or used and furthermore that the process will now be ended.

iPhone Factory Reportedly Forced Students to Work 11-Hour Days

A new report from the Financial Times details exploitative business practices at Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn. According to these allegations, Foxconn has been forcing around 3,000 high school students to work overtime to assemble the new iPhone X, often working 11-hour days at one of the company’s factories.

Apple contracts out the assembly of its iPhones and other products to Taiwanese company Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, which owns and operates several factories in China. Foxconn has been in the news several times over the past few years for the brutal treatment of its employees, famously driving so many to commit suicide that the company had to install suicide nets outside its factory windows.

This new report details how students from the Zhengzhou Urban Rail Transit School were sent to the Foxconn factory for “work experience,” which entailed spending hours manufacturing components for the upcoming iPhone X. These students often worked overtime for more than 40 hours per week, which is illegal under Chinese laws.

This ‘work experience’ was a graduation requirement for the school, which meant the students were forced to labor if they wanted a diploma. One of the students interviewed by FT complains that the assembly line work “has nothing to do with our studies.” Both Apple and Foxconn repeatedly claimed in statements that the students were willingly volunteering their time, as required under Chinese law.

These new allegations show that the manufacturing giant may still have considerable labor violations, despite promises from both Apple and Foxconn that exploitative business practices would end.
